2009 von dem Berliner Sammler und Kunsthändler Jochen Kienzle ins Leben gerufen, feiert die Kienzle Art Foundation in diesem Jahr ihr fünfzehnjähriges Bestehen. Hervorgegangen aus der elterlichen Sammlung und mit einem Schwerpunkt auf der ungegenständlichen Malerei aus Deutschland und den USA, umfasst der Bestand der Kienzle Art Foundation Arbeiten von Künstler:innen, die repräsentativ für die seit den 1970er-Jahren zentrale Verlagerung künstlerischer Praxis hin zu Formen der Diskurs- und Ausstellungsförmigkeit stehen. Der Berliner Autor, Kunstkritiker und Ausstellungsmacher Hans-Jürgen Hafner hat die Stiftungsgründung 2009 begleitet und entwirft – mit Referenz auf eine Arbeit des US-amerikanischen Künstlers Tom Meacham – in The End Justifies the Means: Der Wunsch, die Abstraktion, die Stiftung ein Ausstellungstableau, das die Aspekte der Sammlung, ihrer öffentlichen Bearbeitung durch die Ausstellungs- und Publikationstätigkeit der Stiftung und dem damit verbundenen Wunsch, an der Wert- und Bedeutungsproduktion der Kunst Anteil zu nehmen, vom offenen Ende her in seiner historischen Entwicklung zeigt.

Intro:
Since 2005, quotes from past decades (mostly from the 1980s) have been the title of the annual One Night Group Shows at the end of November in Spor Klübü. Other projects, especially the pandemic, had led to a 4-year break in this exhibition format. Last year the thread was resumed with the exhibition “Zero Tolerance” and 135 participating artists. With 189 artists participating this time, the density of works in the exhibition space is again significantly increased.
“Close To The Edge”
The 1980s, the last decade of the Cold War, is characterized by the threat of violent disputes in the East-West conflict with initially rearmament and later disarmament, the opening up to the Eastern Bloc up to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the rise of neoliberalism, the actor Ronald Reagan as American president for two terms, the beginning of the era of Chancellor Kohl. A whole weird decade often on the edge. Grandmaster Flash And The Furious rapped in 1982 in their hook line: “Don’t push me ’cause I’m close to the edge – I’m trying not to lose my head – It’s like a jungle sometimes – It makes me wonder how I keep from going under”. They bring the social criticism of the black, marginalized and oppressed population into hip-hop as proof of failed politics.
Switch. Over four decades later. Once again, an American re-elected President Trump enters his second term. With a sense of victory that can no longer be averted, he proclaims a coming golden age of America and a return to former greatness at the expense of the poor, the weak, those who think and live differently, women and migrants. The Ampelcoalition in Germany is falling apart. War and the Cold War are already making a comeback in Europe. The world is unsafe. Propaganda and lies instead of truths. Violent intimidation as normality. The law of the strong. Fascists are warming up. Will the punished attackers of the storming of the Capitol in January 2021 soon be pardoned?
Will the 1980s get a revival that will be even closer to the edge?

Das dritte Atelierwochenende Reinickendorf findet am Samstag, 13. Mai und Sonntag, 14. Mai 2023 statt. Am Samstag von 14–20 Uhr und am Sonntag von 12–18 Uhr öffnen öffnen 111 Ateliers an 23 Orten.

Darunter zahlreiche Einzelateliers sowie die fünf großen Kunststandorte des Bezirks: der Künstlerhof Frohnau, das Kunstzentrum Tegel-Süd, die Atelieretage AR_29, das Monopol-Gelände sowie das Atelierhaus Auguste. Neu hinzugekommen ist das Atelierhaus Adria (Kühnemannstr. 51-69).

Die Eröffnung findet am Samstag, 13. Mai um 14 Uhr auf dem Monopol-Gelände statt.

…an atmosphere of departure or dependency in an alternative and avant-garde sense. For others, it was merely a projection surface for profane economic interests pushed by global market events. There was never a vision for all. This blind vision is now reflected in a place of action. …deceptive, the awakening already sits in the neck, like a drug that slowly loses its effect. Because it all ends, and without romanticism. The artists soon have to go back to their nomadic way. Only that they are not nomadic… What could become, what could be? Why is it a blind vision?

The work is one recent result of my artistic practice in the use of the useless, of leftovers, bycatch, findings.

Earlier this year, when all together everyone at home, I started to use the most powerless tool I could find on my computer: MS Paint—which still comes with Windows. This is a very simple pixel-based painting tool. I put up a tiny canvas in oktavo ratio and placed some of the program’s template icons—carefully choosing their position and colour, in just using the standard palette.

I liked the result, but did not stop there.

The weakness of pixels is the resolution. I wanted my picture to be defined and sharp, so I translated it into a vector graphic. The picture now is rendered in mathematic curves—no more fuzzy pixel-stairs, but it is infinitely scalable. Throughout this transfer the forms on the canvas became more fluid, the shapes formerly put one on top of the other were melting and connecting.

To bring this abstract thing into everyday life I chose to render it in Riso—a digital printing technique with high quality inks. So my processed picture found its place on warm sheets of paper as a screen print.

In the composition of her works, the painter Céline Adamo addresses moments of pictorial creation. They are exclusively made with lacquer paints, and are created according to different frameworks she has devised simultaneously and constantly in interdependence. Some paintings she realizes in a few minutes, others develop in a process lasting up to several years. Elmar Zimmermann, in his works, recalls established modes of our pictorial traditions, associates them in an incisive new way, and improvises both precious objects and entire spaces of perception. In doing so, he does not care about responsibilities and thus also questions the “job profile professional artist” as such. From their Berlin studios, the two edit a lucid dialogue reduced to a substantial visual installation: sober but not dry.

A catalog brochure will be published to accompany and complement the exhibition. The artist designed split catalog with 40 illustrations Céline Adamo Elmar Zimmermann #2 is available at Kunstverein Schwäbisch Hall.
